Who am I?
I am from Walton, Liverpool, starting piano lessons with Josephine Callanan at the age of 7 and at the same time joining the choir of Walton Parish Church under the direction of Alan Bickley.
I quickly developed a fascination for the organ and a love of choral music when at the age of 12 I started organ lessons with James Pinder and David Houlder at the famous Liverpool Blue Coat School. I progressed through the ranks of the choir at Walton Parish Church as a chorister before ending up on the organ bench as Assistant Organist – a post which I held until June 1995.
Since 1990, I have earned my living from music making and teaching in various forms throughout Liverpool and the surrounding area, and have taught piano and organ privately since 1992. I have achieved a 98.7% pass rate with my pupils. I enjoy a good relationship working closely with a number of churches and funeral directors alike.
In November 1995 I took up the role as Organist and Director of Music at the Parish Church of St. John the Evangelist,
Walton-On-The-Hill, Liverpool, where I remain to this date. Under my direction, the choir have sung at some notable venues, including Edinburgh, Sheffield and Chester Cathedrals and regularly at Liverpool Cathedral, as well as in Liverpool's St. George's Hall, Exeter, and Cartmel Priory. The Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and actively supports events in the Liverpool Area.
Between 1994 and 1998, I appeared annually at the organ of Liverpool's St. George's Hall and gave a recital at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral in the summer of 1996.
My love of music is not purely rooted in Church. In 1997 I took over as Musical Director of the Richard Hart Singers in Ainsdale serving them for 8 years and in March 2005 I directed the Aughton Male Voice choir on a tour of Prague, performing with the Severacek Choir and I gave a recital in Hejnice Basilica.
I was also ‘the voice’ of City Sightseeing Liverpool & Southport from 2007 until 2015!
In July 2007 I married Clare, and we live with our daughter Sarah, son Alex, and our rescue dog, Lily, in Orrell Park.
